What Is Prolotherapy?
Prolotherapy or Regenerative Injection Therapy (RIT) is a simple and natural nonsurgical technique that relieves acute and chronic pain by promoting the body to repair damaged or weakened joints, ligaments and tendons. A small injection of dextrose (aka sugar water) and mild anesthetic is injected where the stresses to the ligaments or tendons are the greatest – where they attach to bone. This is the weakest and most likely area of injury and pain. Locating and treating this point with Prolotherapy is our focus. Prolotherapy is a safe and very effective modern injection technique used to treat a variety of conditions from low back/hip problems, rotator cuff tears, tennis elbow, knee ligament tears, ankle sprains, plantar fasciitis and many more. Special licensing and requirements are needed to perform this technique. Dr. David Milanovich is our certified prolotherapist.
What Is Plasma Rich Therapy (PRP)?
Plasma Rich Platelets is another injection technique using the patient’s own blood components to induce a magnified healing response instead of dextrose. Platelets not only help stop the bleeding when someone cuts themselves, they also signal the body to recruit its own stem cells to repair the site of injury. While used to a treat a variety of injuries, it is often chosen for osteoarthritis conditions, and stubborn chronic injuries that are not healing as they should.
